This Week At Frazer
March 08-14, 2009 - Frazer United Methodist Church - www.frazerumc.org

Pastor's Points
BarryThis Sunday, March 8, is the Great Day of Giving. We are challenging every Frazer member and friend to give over and beyond his or her tithe to a special and separate offering at the end of each service for one purpose—to support our mission partners (missionaries and mission agencies) around the world with whom we have covenanted to support this year.  The Board of Stewards adjusted our 2009 Operating Budget from an original 10.3 million dollar projection to 9 million dollars in order to live within the level of our pledges. That action required major reductions in three line items in our budget: programs, personnel and missions.
While declaring a revised budget, the Board at the same time issued a congregational challenge to raise $579,000, the amount of the mission budget reduction. We can be both fiscally responsible and faithful at the same time. (more)

Pastor's Points (Continued)
(Continued from top)
This Great Day of Giving says several things. First, we believe in our mission to be a light in the darkness. We are a mission-driven congregation. We are a church committed to the Great Commission in our own neighborhoods and to the nations. Furthermore, we believe the people of Frazer are willing to go beyond normal expectations because of their core convictions. Frazer genuinely loves the world Jesus loves. And we will love the world even when it means sacrifice.
All across this congregation there is a renewed passion for lost people. Tough times provoke a revival of our first call—to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God! This is who we are. Already, the membership has committed $269,980 in the last two weeks in preparation for this great day.
Of course the Great Day of Giving offering can be one-time gifts beyond the In His Steps commitment as well as pledges to be given over the course of 2009. All amounts raised over the shortfall will be designated for missions.
Last year more than 2,000 persons committed themselves to serve in the first Great Day of Service in this community. Frazer spoke boldly through small acts of kindness done in the name of Jesus. We will do that again this year. Through this offering this Sunday we partner with others who serve all over the world. We will live out our mission to Worship, Win, Disciple and Serve.
Every gift, large or small, when given to Christ to do what he has commanded will have His blessing. I trust every child, young person and adult will act in a spirit of Christian unity to bring the kingdom of God to earth as it is in heaven.
As we pray and plan for this day I suggest the timely words of the father of modern missions, William Carey:
“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”

Barry
