Pastor's Points
BarryAn Open Letter to the 2009 Confirmation Class
This is BIG, really BIG! There are few things in the life of our congregation that rise to the level of Confirmation. Your decision to follow Jesus Christ and embrace the faith you have been taught is the greatest decision of your life. It means that you believe the faith passed to you from your parents, your Sunday School teachers, your pastors and others who have taught you. You join a host of others who have taken this path before you. They have encouraged you to follow in faith, to accept the legacy and to take it seriously. (more)

Pastor's Points (Continued)
(Continued from top)

Your decision to take Jesus seriously affects your whole life. Confirmation is more than a church thing. It is more than a rite of passage to becoming an adult. Being confirmed in the faith is your acknowledgement that God has chosen and called you to a personal relationship and your response is a commitment of your heart, mind and body to God. The Apostle Paul wrote to a young believer like you and gave this encouragement:

"You must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the Holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 3:14-15)

I want you to know that the Good News of Jesus Christ is now in your hands. Your friends, your generation and the world you live in need to hear and know the love of Christ. You are now the ones chosen to go, show and tell the love of Christ.

This church now belongs to you. This church has been the church of your parents or maybe even your grandparents, certainly of many older Christians. It is now your church also. And this church requires your attention, your love, your care and your loyalty. I challenge you today to be passionate seekers of truth. Be alert to the falsehood and compromise of our time. Guard your heart, your mind and your body and commit yourself to holiness. There are many forces that will seek to make you a slave of fun, materialism and sex.

Remember that you now belong to God. You were born for this time in history and for the purpose of pleasing God in this world. God must have thought a whole lot of you to place you here and now. We sure are grateful God gave you to Frazer.
