Pastor's Points (Continued)
(Continued from top)
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals including the Lord’s Supper, and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
- The church trained and educated its members systematically in the Word of God (devoted to the Apostle’s teaching).
- The church brought its members together constantly (each day v. 46).
- The church developed members in relationships of mutual support and fellowship (devoted to fellowship, v. 42; And all the believers met together in one place, v. 44).
- The church had both small group meetings (they broke bread in their homes, v. 46) and large group meetings (attending the temple together, v. 46).
- The church practiced the sacrament of the Lord’s Table constantly (vv. 42, 46).
- The church spent much time in group prayer (devoted themselves to prayer, v. 42), which occurred in both homes and large public gatherings.
- The church practiced radical stewardship, economic sharing and “mercy ministry” within their community. People received practical, financial and material help for their needs (selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need, v. 45).
- The church experienced God’s evident power within their body (A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. v. 43).
- The church practiced joy and praise that permeated each gathering—large or small (vv. 46, 47).
- The church was attractive to outsiders (enjoying the goodwill of all the people v. 47).
- The church was evangelistically effective (And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. v. 47).
- The church was the connecting point for the believers. They were added to the church, not just to the Lord (v. 47).
This is certainly a template for Frazer. I invite you to join us as we discover all over again the power of the Holy Spirit living and working through the Church of Jesus Christ that turns the world “Upside Down!”
