Heartbeats
JimThe beat goes on. Yes, the heartbeat of Frazer goes on. Last week, I suggested that it is a good thing to look back at the old year of 2009 but only for memories and for direction on what we would need to change for the new year so that life could be better for us. We don’t want to stay in 2009. That year has already been spent. We can’t redo it, nor can we relive it. It is history. (more)

Pastor's Points (Continued)
(Continued from top)

The new year is for looking ahead. We don’t need to look a great deal beyond 2010. The future will always beckon us to spend time in planning for it. It is a good and necessary thing to plan a preferred future. This is called vision. We need to have our hopes and dreams and visions of a better day. The future is out there—somewhere, someday. The future is never controlled by the past. Remembering what was yesterday never means that it will be that way in the future. What does help shape the future for us is the present. Present reality sets the heartbeat for the future!

2010 is present reality for us. What we do or don’t do in 2010 will lead into what we will be able to accomplish in the future.

Present reality for me is this: I came to Frazer at the request of the bishop to be an interim Senior Minister. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee has been gracious and supportive. The entire staff has been supportive. The whole congregation has opened its arms to me in welcome. I have been included in everything. I could not have hoped for a better reception. It has all been good! The Frazer Family has the possible of a wonderful future, i.e. if we make the right decisions in 2010.

Two of the right decisions that we can make in our current reality are these: One, keep faithful to using our gifts and graces for ministry. I believe that every member is a minister. If we stay true to use our gifts and graces and spiritual gifts to reach the lost and the unchurched—We have a future! The second thing that secures a future for us here at Frazer is this: keeping our financial commitments. I read the news that Saddleback Church’s leader, Rick Warren, made a plea of his members to make up a $900,000 short-fall in their budget. They raised an excess of two million dollars. Several things leap out at me from this story. One, people were probably not giving to their level or ability to give. If they tithed, they might not have had a short-fall on their budget. But whether or not they were giving at the tithing level is not important. What is important is they gave sacrificially. We insure the future of our church when we give sacrificially.
