Haiti Relief Update
True to our heartbeat of missions through service, many Frazer members have asked how they can help in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti. First, the church has already responded with a donation of $12,000 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR has a long relationship in Haiti with trained relief workers already on the ground.

Last Tuesday, Frazer packed and sent 478 health kits to UMCOR in Louisiana and the special offering taken for Haiti relief at the end of Sunday morning services on Jan. 17 surpassed $20,000. This is absolutely the work of God that the Frazer Family rose to the occasion after an e-mail was sent out Friday, Jan. 15, and provided this magnitude of love and support.

Not only has our Frazer family embraced the people of Haiti, but so has the surrounding community working through Frazer. Four local schools, three churches and one hospital have all indicated that they will prepare health kits and bring them to Frazer for distribution. Several youth groups also have expressed their willingness to partner with us.

The needs in Haiti are great and there are still many opportunities to help. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Members can give through our regular offerings by marking your envelope “for Haiti relief.” You can encourage others who may not attend Frazer to give directly to UMCOR by visiting www.givetomissions.org and entering the designation code #418325.
  • Members can also pray about being part of a short-term mission trip later this year. Methodists have a reputation for being there for the long road of recovery, and our missions committee will be consulting with our partners in Haiti over the coming weeks to determine the ways in which we can go and make the most difference later this year.
  • Help assemble health kits and drop them off at the “Donation Stations” around the church through Monday, Jan. 25. A team of volunteers will gather Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Servery (behind Wesley Hall) to assemble and pack the kits and supplies collected throughout this past week. Frazer will deliver them to UMCOR for distribution. Go to frazerumc.org/haitirelief for instructions.
  • Most importantly, continue to pray for the people of Haiti and for the many missions workers already there and their families.

It is a tremendous joy to be part of this wonderful Frazer Family. I rejoice in how God has allowed us to be His hands and His feet.

For the only Cause that matters,
Butch McPherson, Director of Outreach
