Dementia Daycare

Contact: LifeCare Ministry @ 272-8622

Dementia Daycare provides a time of respite for the caregiver of a family member who is suffering from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. We provide a loving, safe place for these people to come and enjoy a social time and have fun in group activities. This service is free of charge to the community, not just Frazer members.

Volunteer Responsibilities: We have a room set up with game tables and comfortable armchairs. We talk, and laugh, and get to know the people who come. Sometimes, we have a radio or tape player providing background music. We play games, have snacks (with soft drinks provided by the church kitchen) and we tell our caregivers to provide a sack lunch for their family member. We have a “picnic” style lunch together around the noon hour and by 12:30 p.m. they are ready to go home.

Time spent volunteering: We meet once a week (Thursday mornings), in a room at Frazer Memorial from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Volunteer skills needed: We are familiar with the personality and actions of people with Dementia, whether caused by Parkinson’s, brain tumors, injury, or as with most of our participants—Alzheimer’s. All volunteers are knowledgeable of and/or experienced (from medical vocations and/or “OJT” with a family member) in care giving to persons with Dementia.
