Notes from Our Pastor
There’s a story of a woman and her husband who went to the dentist’s office without an appointment. The lady asked if they could be squeezed in because of a terrible toothache. They were trying to catch a plane. They were squeezed in. The lady said to the dentist, “We’re in a big hurry, and I want a tooth taken out. I don’t want any Novocaine or any gas; I just want you to do it as quickly as you can so we can catch our plane.” The dentist said, “Well, if that’s the way you want it, you can do it that way, but it will be very painful.” The lady said, “The pain won’t be any problem.” “Very well,” said the dentist, “Which tooth is it?” The lady turned to her husband and said, “Show him your tooth, Albert.”

Notes from Our Pastor - Continued
It’s easy to be brave and certain in the face of someone else’s pain. It’s easy to come up with pat phrases and quick and easy answers and clear responses to someone else’s hurts, but most hurting people are not looking for answers; they need a hug, a smile, a listening ear, a quiet comforting presence. There are a lot of hurting people in this world. You don’t have to fix them. God is in charge of the curing; we’re only in charge of the caring. But amazing, miraculous things happen when God’s people show up for one another.
We have a group of caring people at Frazer called Stephen Ministers. These are lay people in Frazer who have been trained to provide intentional Christian care for hurting people. They show up for individuals who are hurting, afraid, lonely, depressed, or grieving and they journey with them through their pain and they bring the comfort, the listening ear, the care of Christ. This is a one-on-one confidential, caring ministry.
If you feel as if God is calling you to this kind of ministry and you are interested in knowing more about what a Stephen Minister does and about the training, then please contact Suzie Beeson in the church office at 272-8622.
In Galatians 6:10 it says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially those who belong to the family of believers.” The Stephen Ministry is a beautiful way to bring the goodness of God to those in our church family. If you’re feeling the nudge of God to be a part of a vital caring ministry, consider the Stephen Ministry.
