Notes from Our Pastor
Some people eat to live and others live to eat. Now I recognize that there are more important reasons for living than just eating, but I have to admit that eating is one of my favorite pastimes. When I became a preacher and went to serve three churches in the country on the Lee circuit, I got introduced to church “dinner on the grounds,” and I discovered a little slice of heaven on earth. Everybody brings their favorite dish. It becomes competitive cooking with each country cook trying to outdo the other. There’s fried chicken and made-from-scratch chicken and dumplings and pot roast and every kind of fresh vegetable imagined and deviled eggs and 20 different kinds of desserts. For a person who loves to eat, a church dinner on the grounds is just about the best thing ever.
