Notes from Our Pastor
Thirty-four years ago, I was hired by John Ed Mathison to be the Student Minister at Frazer. We had a handful of teenagers, and we met in a trailer classroom behind the church. It was one of the most exciting years of my life. During that year, my calling into the ministry was confirmed, and I received confirmation that my calling was not youth ministry.

Church-Wide News & Events
SUNDAY NIGHT CHAPEL WORSHIP STARTS AUG. 1
For some, Sunday night is a time to stay home and devote to family. But for others, it brings back wonderful memories of heartfelt singing, powerful prayer time, and fellowship around ice cream and watermelon. That’s why Frazer will offer Chapel Worship on Sundays at 6 p.m. With preaching by various Frazer pastors and music led by Joe Pat Cox, Chapel Worship brings back a traditional gospel style worship for today.
DAY AWAY WITH GOD AUG. 14
Spend “A Day Away with God” Saturday, Aug. 14 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Frazer. This day of prayer will help you develop intimacy with God by spending significant time alone with Him. This prayer experience is for beginners as well as seasoned intercessors. We will share tools to help you complete this extended prayer adventure. Childcare will be available with registration. Cost is $5 for materials. To register for the event and for childcare, call the Prayer Ministry office at 495-6350 or go to www.frazerumc.org/dawg
CALLING ALL ARTISTS & WRITERS: BE IGNITED!
As we prepare for this year’s In His Steps commitment campaign in the fall, we invite Frazer members with creative gifts to join with us in envisioning our theme of “Ignite.” Through Sept. 5, you can submit electronic versions of your original poetry, short stories, photography, paintings, drawings or other artwork that illustrates how the Holy Spirit ignites God’s people to love Christ passionately and serve Him powerfully in a dark world. A selection of these will be reproduced and published in a booklet to be made available at the church. Contact Communications Director Ken Roach at ken@frazerumc.org for more information or to submit your work.
HAVE YOU SPOTTED A MOVING VAN? HELP US WELCOME NEW PEOPLE TO MONTGOMERY BY INVITING THEM TO FRAZER
When you see a new family moving into your neighborhood, why not take the opportunity to introduce yourself and invite them to church at Frazer? With many military families moving into our area this time of year, this is an especially important time to reach out and make these newcomers feel welcome. In addition to a variety of Sunday School classes, small groups and activities for all ages, Frazer also offers a Family Teams for Christ Sunday School class designed specifically to accommodate military families stationed at Maxwell for one year. Cards and brochures with information about this class, as well as all other opportunities are available in the Atrium to give out. Most people come to church because of a personal invitation; let’s be alert to ways we can share the love of Christ with new people.

LIFE TRANSFORMATION GROUPS
Do you want to grow in your relationship with Christ? Do you need accountability in your life? Consider joining a Life Transformation Group. LTGs are a simple and powerful way to release the most essential elements (prayer, scripture reading, confession and accountability) of a vital spiritual Journey to people who need Jesus to change their lives from the inside out. Groups of two-three people meet weekly (no co-ed groups, no leader or curriculum). LTGs incorporate the values of community, internal life transformation and reproduction of disciples. For more information, call the Discipleship Office at 495-6391.

Notes from Our Pastor - Continued
But I am glad that God has called Brian Word, Bryan Levangie and Lauren Matson into youth ministry at Frazer. They have such a passion for Christ, a passion for teenagers, a passion to see our students know Christ and to be transformed into his likeness, and to be involved in God’s mission in this world. I am really sorry that my children are grown because I would have loved for them to be under the leadership and the teaching of our CRAVE Student Ministry staff.
Our youth are having a great summer. We have had teenagers on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. We have had teenagers working in missions of the underprivileged in Montgomery each week. We have had teenagers helping out with Vacation Bible School; teenagers in Youth Worship Arts, under the leadership of Debbie Peavy, sharing the Gospel in all kinds of creative ways to people up and down the east coast; we’ve had teenagers on a church retreat growing closer to the One who gave His life for them; and we’ve had teenagers in small groups studying and praying.
Sunday morning I saw several of our teenagers walking around with blue streaks in their hair. I thought that was odd, so I began to ask about that and discovered that some of our teenagers, on their own, came up with the idea of “Praying up a blue streak for Kelly Levangie.” Kelly is Bryan Levangie’s wife, and she is battling breast cancer. In loving care and support of Kelly, our teenagers have put blue streaks in their hair reminding us and Kelly that they are praying up a blue streak for her. I hope all of you will be praying up a blue streak for Kelly.
Let’s follow the leadership of our teenagers by worshipping, serving, praying, and caring for others in the name if Christ.
